Assignment 2
(Task 1)
Hello,I'm Salmiah..Actually, I would like to share with you about my assignment and experience about David Crystal website. For task 1, i choose the recording about"Dumb Down".
The assignment want me listening to Prof. David Crystal's recording.Firstly, I can't read the tapescript. After that, I can read and listen again.
At the first time I'm listen, I can't get what he want to say. Therefore, I'm listen many time to understand what he say. I read the tapescript and refer to dictionary. After that, I can understand the tapescript.
From the recording I'm have a little of words I can't understand until I refer to dictionary.
1)appealing (menarik)
- to ask earnestly for something.
2)transitive (transitif)
- having a direct object.
3) trivialised ( memperkecil-kecilkan)
- to make something seem unimportant
4) fascination ( daya penarik)
- to attract or interest someone very strongly.
That all for task 1.
Task 2
The assignment for task 2 I choose the tapescript"Bless". It also about english language.
Actually, the word used at the different situation example "Bless you" somebody says after a sneeze. "Bless you heart!" used mainly by adults talking down and others.
The word I can't understand is:
1) remarkable (luar biasa)
-worth mentioning
2) interjection (kata seru)
- a word or words, or used to express surprise.
3) snuggling (dengan selesa)
- sheltered from the cold.
4) harsh (kejam)
- very strict
5)distinctive (yang berbeza)
- different from others.
This assignment is very interesting and give me extra knowledge. At the same time, I can improve my vocabulary, listening skill and others. This very good activity and give more information. Lastly, I want to wish a lot of thanks to my lovely teacher because help me learn and improve my english language.
